EmMaj7 Ukulele Chord

EmMaj7 glints with quiet menace, drawing E, G, B and the piercing D# major seventh from a mostly open shape. That bright top note against the minor body gives it a wistful, film-noir ache ideal for moody folk and brooding jazz passages.

How to Play This Chord

Position your fingers on the fretboard as shown in the diagram. The vertical lines represent the four strings, from the top G string (left) to the A string (right), and the horizontal lines are the frets. Numbers inside the dots indicate which finger to use: 1 (index), 2 (middle), 3 (ring), 4 (pinky). An X means don't play that string; an O means play it open. A bar spanning multiple strings means one finger presses across all of them at once — this is known as a barre chord.

Tips & Tricks

Let the G and E strings ring open, place your middle finger on the C string at fret 3, and set your index on the A string at fret 2. The challenge is keeping that open E string clear — arch the middle finger high on the C string so it doesn't lean over and deaden the open note beside it.
