Changelog
What's new on Chord Library — grouped by day.
June 17, 2026
- Made every page significantly lighter and faster: the chord & scale search index is now fetched only when you start searching, instead of being baked into every page.
- Search results are now scoped to the instrument you're viewing — ukulele pages search ukulele chords and scales, guitar pages search guitar.
- Removed the printable guitar reference book promotion from ukulele pages, since the book covers guitar fingerings.
- Every ukulele chord page now has a unique, hand-written description plus a new Tips & Tricks section with practical fingering guidance for that exact shape — covering common beginner struggles like the awkward E major, cramped three-finger shapes, and your first barre chords (English pages).
- Those unique ukulele chord descriptions and Tips & Tricks are now fully translated into all six other languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, French, German, Turkish), with note names written in each language's own convention (solfège like Do-Mi-Sol where that's standard).
- New dedicated Ukulele home page at `/ukulele` — its own hero, tool cards, and stats for the GCEA toolkit (chords, scales, fretboard, progressions, identifier), available in all seven languages. The main homepage is now focused on guitar, and the Guitar/Ukulele switch in the header hops between the two home pages.
- The Ukulele Chord Progression Generator now defaults to strumming instead of fingerpicking, which better matches how most people play the ukulele.
June 16, 2026
- Audio now preloads quietly after a page finishes loading and is shared across the whole site, so the first chord, scale, or note plays instantly — and it only loads once per visit instead of re-loading on each tool.
- Added a full Ukulele section: 180 ukulele chord pages and 169 ukulele scale pages in standard GCEA tuning, each with a true 4-string diagram, audio, and finger positions.
- New ukulele tools to match the guitar toolkit — a Ukulele Chords hub, Ukulele Scales hub, Ukulele Fretboard, Ukulele Chord Progression Generator, and Ukulele Chord Identifier.
- Added a Guitar / Ukulele switch to the header tools row: it follows the instrument of the page you're on, and flipping it jumps to the matching page on the other instrument (e.g. C major on guitar → C major on ukulele). Added ukulele chords and scales to site search.
- Added a Ukulele card to the homepage. The entire ukulele section — page titles, tool copy, chord and scale descriptions, and URLs — is translated across all seven languages.
June 13, 2026
- New Chord Identifier tool: recreate a shape on the fretboard and get the chord name, its notes, alternate names, and audio playback — with a closest music-theory guess when there's no exact match.
- New blog of guitar-learning guides, starting with "How to Start Learning Guitar," with live chord and scale widgets embedded in articles.
- Published 9 in-depth beginner guides on the blog: reading guitar tabs, the complete how-to-play-guitar guide, what a chord is, tuning, restringing, what it all costs, holding the guitar & strumming, guitar anatomy, and the history of the guitar — several with embedded how-to videos.
