Asus2 Ukulele Chord

A bright, open suspended chord built from A, B and E. Floating between major and minor, it brings an airy, hopeful color to folk and pop and softens the move into A major.

Also known as

  • A sus2
  • A suspended 2nd
  • A suspended second

How to Play This Chord

Position your fingers on the fretboard as shown in the diagram. The vertical lines represent the four strings, from the top G string (left) to the A string (right), and the horizontal lines are the frets. Numbers inside the dots indicate which finger to use: 1 (index), 2 (middle), 3 (ring), 4 (pinky). An X means don't play that string; an O means play it open. A bar spanning multiple strings means one finger presses across all of them at once — this is known as a barre chord.

Tips & Tricks

This is a movable barre shape that starts around fret 2. Barre all four strings with your index, then add your ring finger on the C string two frets up and your pinky on the E string one fret higher still. A firm, even index barre is the key to keeping every string clear.

There are many ways to play this chord. Try these:

AECG 1 3 4 1 1 3 4 1
AECG 1 4 3 1 1 4 3 1
AECG 1 4 3 1 1 4 3 1
AECG 1 4 1 3 4 1 1 4
