Fmaj7 Ukulele Chord

A soft, mellow major seventh built from F, A, C and E. Warm and a touch jazzy, it's a favorite in ballads, soul and bossa nova where a plain F wants a gentler, more open-hearted color.

How to Play This Chord

Position your fingers on the fretboard as shown in the diagram. The vertical lines represent the four strings, from the top G string (left) to the A string (right), and the horizontal lines are the frets. Numbers inside the dots indicate which finger to use: 1 (index), 2 (middle), 3 (ring), 4 (pinky). An X means don't play that string; an O means play it open. A bar spanning multiple strings means one finger presses across all of them at once — this is known as a barre chord.

Tips & Tricks

Spread across four frets: ring finger on the G string at the second fret, pinky on the C string at the fourth, index on the E string at the first, and middle on the A string at the third. Keep your hand relaxed and let your fingers fan out rather than bunching—the pinky reach is the part to practice slowly.

There are many ways to play this chord. Try these:

AECG 3 1 4 2 3 1 4 2
