Emaj7 Ukulele Chord

A bright, slightly wistful major seventh made from E, G#, B and D#. Common in jazz, bossa and soulful pop, it carries a tender, floating quality that softens the brighter edge of a plain E major.

How to Play This Chord

Position your fingers on the fretboard as shown in the diagram. The vertical lines represent the four strings, from the top G string (left) to the A string (right), and the horizontal lines are the frets. Numbers inside the dots indicate which finger to use: 1 (index), 2 (middle), 3 (ring), 4 (pinky). An X means don't play that string; an O means play it open. A bar spanning multiple strings means one finger presses across all of them at once — this is known as a barre chord.

Tips & Tricks

Put your index on the G string at the first fret, your ring finger on the C string at the third fret, and your middle finger on the A string at the second fret, leaving the E string open. The open E sits between two fretted strings, so curl your fingers up onto their tips to give it room to ring clearly.

There are many ways to play this chord. Try these:

AECG 2 0 3 1 2 0 3 1
