Dsus2 Ukulele Chord

A clear, open-sounding suspended chord made from D, E and A. It carries a hopeful, unsettled feel that fits folk, pop and rock, and often decorates a D major before resolving back to it.

Also known as

  • D sus2
  • D suspended 2nd
  • D suspended second

How to Play This Chord

Position your fingers on the fretboard as shown in the diagram. The vertical lines represent the four strings, from the top G string (left) to the A string (right), and the horizontal lines are the frets. Numbers inside the dots indicate which finger to use: 1 (index), 2 (middle), 3 (ring), 4 (pinky). An X means don't play that string; an O means play it open. A bar spanning multiple strings means one finger presses across all of them at once — this is known as a barre chord.

Tips & Tricks

This is a movable shape sitting up the neck, starting around fret 2. Put your index on the G string, your middle on the C string two frets higher, and barre the E and A strings with your ring finger one fret above that. Anchor the index first, then build the rest around it.

There are many ways to play this chord. Try these:

AECG 4 4 3 1 4 4 3 1
