Csus2 Ukulele Chord

A bright, open suspended chord made from the notes C, D and G. With its third swapped for the second it sits comfortably in folk and pop strumming, adding a gentle lift when it resolves to a plain C major.

Also known as

  • C sus2
  • C suspended 2nd
  • C suspended second

How to Play This Chord

Position your fingers on the fretboard as shown in the diagram. The vertical lines represent the four strings, from the top G string (left) to the A string (right), and the horizontal lines are the frets. Numbers inside the dots indicate which finger to use: 1 (index), 2 (middle), 3 (ring), 4 (pinky). An X means don't play that string; an O means play it open. A bar spanning multiple strings means one finger presses across all of them at once — this is known as a barre chord.

Tips & Tricks

Leave the G string open and ringing, then press the C string at fret 2 with your index. Lay your middle and ring fingers across the E and A strings at fret 3, one finger per string. Keep those two fingers arched so the open G stays clear and doesn't get muffled.

There are many ways to play this chord. Try these:

AECG 3 3 2 0 3 3 2 0
